TRY-US-OUTS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
TRYOUTS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
How are the Try-Us-Out sessions structured?
- The first session will be comprised of small-sided soccer games. Players will use their decision-making skills by participating in small group (4v4) activities with the goal of maximizing ball touch opportunities in game-like situations.
- The second session will be comprised of age-appropriate sized games, such as 7v7 or 9v9.
Who will be evaluating my player during Try-Us-Outs?
- Your player will be evaluated by licensed EPSC Staff, coaches, and independent evaluators.
- Players will be assessed by multiple evaluators with the goal of placing them on the most appropriate team for their developmental needs with other players of similar play levels.
How does the evaluation process work?
- During the Try-Us-Out sessions, evaluators will use a software that automatically inputs scores for players into the EPSC system.
- The numbers assigned to players during these sessions are them coupled with coach and Director scores to provide one overall score for each player.
- When player scores place them in between two different levels of play, EPSC Staff provide their input to make the best, most developmentally appropriate placement.
- All EPSC Staff are involved in the team formation process.
How are teams formed once Try-Us-Outs have concluded?
- To be placed on a team, any participating player must be registered in the Try-Us-Out event on PlayMetrics. No exceptions will be made.
- New players are placed on teams within 72 hours after the final Try-Us-Out session based on observations made by attending coaches and EPSC Staff. Notification of team placement will arrive via email.
- Players will be placed on the most developmentally appropriate team for their age and skills.
- EPSC staff will attempt to place as many players as possible, and will make projections numbers/team in advance of the sessions.
What should my player bring to the Try-Us-Out Session?
- Players should wear weather appropriate clothing, including shorts and a soccer jersey or t-shirt
- All players must wear shin guards
- Plenty of water
- A fully inflated size 4 soccer ball
- Pinnies will be handed out at the field
- A positive attitude and an open mind
What if my player is unable to attend the Try-Us-Out Sessions or can only attend one of them?
- Players not able to attend will be placed according to prior season coach evaluation and Director player ranking.
- If you know that your player is unavailable for one or both sessions, please register your player under the Try-Us-Out event in PlayMetrics, note the absence in your registration, AND notify club staff at Info@EPSoccerClub.com
- New players who cannot attend the session will be placed on the most developmentally appropriate team given the information available to EPSC Staff at the time.
- Placements cannot be contested. However, players will be assessed by EPSC staff during the Fall season and moved to a more developmentally appropriate team in the Spring, if needed.
My player wants to be a goalkeeper. Will there be specific sessions for goalkeepers?
- There are no goalkeeper Try-Us-Outs at the 8U-11U age levels. You can, however, indicate their position preference when registering them for the Try-Us-Outs through PlayMetrics.
How long do I have to make a decision for my player?
- You will have 72 hours to accept the team placement offer for your player.
- If you do not accept your spot within 72 hours, there is no guarantee that your player's spot will still be avialable.
